The essay is divided into three parts: the first one contains a statistical analysis of the main indicators of efficiency of criminal appeal. In the second, the focus is on the norms, contained in Law 134/2021, aimed at improving the functioning of the second-instance judgement. Finally, in the conclusions, some proposals are made, calibrated on the major critical issues, which have affected the criminal appeal since the creation of the “Vassalli Code”.
