« The Timings and Processes Involved in the Transformation of Genoa, from Wood to Stone » ABSTRACT – In the historic center of Genoa, there are many remains of twelfth- to fourteenth-century houses comprising several floors and built of stone and brick. The documents show, however, that these were flanked by numerous domus lignaminis (wooden houses), which gradually disappeared due to frequent fires and, above all, the wealth and dynamism of the city. This article seeks to shed light on this interweaving of causes and motivations.
