The current study aims at carrying out an analysis of the different strategies for the translation of those expressions which are diaphasically and diatopically marked. Using a descriptivist approach, we will draw attention to the techniques which have been implemented for the translation of vernacular expressions by the two Italian versions (2003; 2014) of Roberto Bolaño’s novel Los detectives salvajes (1998). The first part of the research is centred on the linguistic and discursive features of the novel, particularly on the simulated orality which emerges from direct speeches. In fact, characters’ sociocultural profiling is strongly linked to their linguistic marginalization. The second part focuses on the occurrences, within the corpus, of mexicanisms, of which we will distinguish between taboo expressions and those which are only diatopically marked. Finally, we will quantify the translation tendencies arised, so as to highlight the main differences between the two Italian versions with regard to slang and vernacular language.

Abstract
Finally, we will quantify the translation tendencies arised, so as to highlight the main differences between the two Italian versions with regard to slang and vernacular language.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
