The electro-oxidative demolition of synthetic tannins, complex organic molecules widely used in leather retanning processes, has been studied with Ti/Pt and Ti/PbO2 electrodes. The almost complete elimination of the chemical oxygen demand (electrochemical incineration) was achieved only at the Ti/PbO2 electrode and only under oxygen evolution conditions; furthermore, it occurred with a high faradaic yield and minimal anode fouling. At the Ti/Pt electrode, the extent of mineralization was lower and, in consideration of the cost of the material, it was preferred not to investigate further. Under optimal experimental conditions, the treatment of real wastewater samples allowed COD reductions of between 74 and 91%, with initial instantaneous current efficiencies greater than 70%.

Abstract
Under optimal experimental conditions, the treatment of real wastewater samples allowed COD reductions of between 74 and 91%, with initial instantaneous current efficiencies greater than 70%.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
