The taxonomic status of Opuntia amyclaea was revised in relation to the discover of two naturalized species on the Pellegrino’s Mountain near Palermo, Sicily, Italy, where Alwin Berger collected and studied the former taxon, accepted here as a wild spiny form of Opuntia ficus-indica. A key to distinguish Opuntia ficus-indica f. amyclaea and O. streptacantha is also provided.

Abstract

The taxonomic status of Opuntia amyclaea was revised in relation to the discover of two naturalized species on the Pellegrino’s Mountain near Palermo, Sicily, Italy, where Alwin Berger collected and studied the former taxon, accepted here as a wild spiny form of Opuntia ficus-indica. A key to distinguish Opuntia ficus-indica f. amyclaea and O. streptacantha is also provided.
