The article aims to contribute to the debate on Pathways for transversal skills and orientation (PCTO, formerly Alternanza Scuola Lavoro), that is mandatory in Italy for students of the last three years of upper secondary schools. It presents the main evidence emerged from an exploratory research part of a national project aimed at evaluating this policy and conducted through qualitative interviews with representatives of upper schools (lyceums, technical and vocational) and public institutions in two cities of the norther Italy. Introduced the context and the theory-based evaluation approach, the paper discusses the PCTO objectives, benefits and potential problems for students, teachers and firms; it analyzes organization and implementation of the pathways, highlighting obstacles and facilitating factors for their implementation. The different views emerged on PCTO and the complexity in their design and implementation as well as in the governance of the system are discussed.

The different views emerged on PCTO and the complexity in their design and implementation as well as in the governance of the system are discussed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
