Abstract

During the 46th international festival "Biennale Teatro" in Venice, the theatre company Kronoteatro presented for the first time its production Cicatrici («Scars»), freely inspired by Seneca's Thyestes. This paper addresses the way in which the ancient model is received and re- imaged: the emphasis on the dynamics of power; the use of hunger as a symbolical Leitmotiv; the reinterpretation of characters. Seneca's text has been distilled into evocative fragments and integrated into a highly physical performance style, interacting on the stage with the wood sculptures by Christian Zucconi.
