Abstract
Augustus appears as a character in two Menippean works, Seneca's Apocolocyntosis and Emperor Julian's Caesares. This paper analyses these portraits and the addresses Augustus delivers in both writings: they are aimed at stressing aspects of his personality which acquire a symbolic meaning, fitting with Menippean imagery. The centrality of Augustus and others emperors in both works is an important factor in establishing the role of political theme in the development of prosimetric spoudaioghéloion.File in questo prodotto:
