Chiabrera and the Pietà Rondanini. Seicento Literature under Enzo Noè Girardi’s consideration · Enzo Noè Girardi dedicated his dissertation, his first book and his last 17th cent. Literature essay to Gabriello Chiabrera, opening a new season for style studies, despite some critics’ mistrut. He proposed a definition of Seicento as «centrifugal moment» of Renaissance, also relying on the knowledge about Michelangelo’s poetry. The Pietà Rondanini masterpiece represents the art expressing a sort of «beauty not anymore peaceful, but aware of its own insufficiency». The 17th cent. literature is like Michelangelo’s last work and Girardi exemplifies this idea by analysing Federico Borromeo’s oratorical style.
