After a brief introduction on the genesis and affirmation of Jewish Studies in Europe and in the United States, the article focuses on the particular significance of this branch of studies in the Polish context, divided between persistent and serious obstacles of a psychological, social and political nature, and a considerable diffusion, evidenced if only by the number of University- and informal teachings, and a large number of initiatives and researches, often extremely courageous and innovative.
