This article draws attention to a text which could be a starting point for an in-depth analysis of the Amer- ican identity and its relation to the rest of the world, particularly Europe and Great Britain. Frederick J. Turner’s “The Significance of the Frontier in American History” could also be helpful to explore one of the sources of some recent phenomena such as the Western revival, a resurgence of the myth of the frontier, the fascination for the Wild West, while at the same time it provides several issues to be discussed including ecology, imperialism and cultural destruction.
