I de Nigro fra Due e Trecento: progetti familiari e modalità consociative di un albergo genovese. Prime ricerche

The alberghi are one of the most distinctive and original features of late medieval Genoa, yet scholars have only rarely afforded their attention to these confederacies. Given the current need to address the issue and re-center the focus on the internal aspects of the city, this article aims at giving a brief overview of an ongoing research on the albergo de Nigro, starting from the first attestations relative to the family in the late twelfth century. The large number of notarial documents related to the de Nigro illustrate a close-knit family whose members show not only an interest in long-distance trade, but also a marked inclination towards legal careers.

Benché gli alberghi siano uno dei tratti più originali e distintivi della Genova tardomedievale, queste consociazioni familiari sono state poco considerate dagli studiosi della città ligure. A fronte della necessità di riprendere il problema e di riorientare l’attenzione verso gli aspetti interni della città, questo saggio offre una prima panoramica sulle vicende dell’albergo de Nigro a partire dalle prime attestazioni relative alla famiglia nel secolo XII. La vasta messe di documentazione notarile che li riguarda mostra un gruppo parentale coeso i cui membri, oltre all’interesse verso il commercio, hanno anche una spiccata inclinazione verso la carriera giuridica.
