The article is an introduction to Thom Gunn's teaching notes and unpublished correspondence on the British writer D.H. Lawrence. Starting from my experience in San Francisco in 1990 when I interviewed the American poet Thom Gunn and was invited as a guest to one of his lectures at the University of California, Berkeley, I analyzes Gunn's letters on Lawrence, their positions about critical theories, Gunn's appreciation of Lawrence's poems along with his memories of the International D.H. Lawrence Conference in Sanfa Fe. The latter included many famous American poets and critics among the participants.
