"Arithmos" nel "Teeteto", nel "Sofista" e nel "Politico" di Platone

If you consider every occurrence of "arithmos" in Theaet., Soph. and Pol., and if you read all these passages in the context of the discussion to which they belong, you can easily understand how difficult (if not impossible or even wrong) it is, to get from them a fixed and uniform conception of number. "Arithmoi" show such a variety of identities and features in the analysed dialogues – which are to be connected expecially with Resp. and Phil. – that Aristotle’s way of speaking about numbers (in general and in Plato) seems to be on one hand critically simplified and on the other hand intelligently articulated to put questions arisen by Plato’s pages.

Se si considerano tutte le occorrenze di “arithmos” nel “Teeteto”, nel “Sofista” e nel “Politico”, e se di leggono tutti questi passi entro il contesto al quale appartengono, si può facilmente capire quanto sia difficile (se non impossibile o addirittura sbagliato) trarre da essi una concezione di numero fissa e uniforme. Nei dialoghi analizzati (che vanno connessi soprattutto a “Repubblica” e “Filebo”), gli “arithmoi” mostrano una tale varietà di identità e caratteri che il modo in cui Aristotele parla dei numeri (in generale e in Platone) sembra essere, da un lato, criticamente semplificato e, dall’altro canto, articolato con intelligenza per porre questioni sollevate dalle pagine di Platone.
