Abstract

In Kant's moral theory the idea of freedom is the main metaphysical foundation (ratio essendi) and the factum of reason is the crucial logical-foundational issue (ratio cognoscendi). The essay aims to recontruct by which procedures Kant can justify or defend his "first principle", everyman's consciousness of the moral law. In this way it may emerge in which sense the consciousness of freedom as autonomy is not only inseparably connected with the fact of reason, but is identical with it.
