The events of recent years in Syria have prompted waves of migrants which are likely to threaten the internal stability of hosting countries as well as the political balances of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Nowadays, the political and humanitarian costs of the crisis are being paid mainly by Syria’s neighbors, with Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey currently hosting over 4.5 million recognized status refugees.
