Abstract: The techniques of static reinforcement of masonry are today oriented to the use of new materials such as fiber-reinforced (FRP), enclosing between the new materials also the use of concrete or steel structures. The intervention that we want to present in this brief note is about the reinforcement of the vault of the presbytery of the Church of Nostra Signora Assunta in Rossiglione (Genova). The technique of reinforcement of the vault has privileged the use of materials compatible with the existing ones; because it is a masonry vault is operated by introducing a system of sub-arcs of brick masonry in support of the masonry vault existing, seriously damaged. The masonry vault becomes cooperating with the new masonry arches and the new structural system has the function to cooperate to support the heavy baroque altar; static analysis was performed according to the theory developed by Jacques Heyman in his writings on masonry arches [J. Heyman, The masonry Arch. 1982]. The result constitutes a technique that we dare say “innovative” versus the current practice of static reinforcement of vaulted structures. This technique of static rehabilitation of existing structures has the feature of being compatible, reversible and non-invasive with the existing structure and in continuity with the existing geometric and static.
