The contribution presents a critical reading comparing two seismic events trough cartographic representations as published in the most popular Italian newspapers. These charts, as with most other communicative instruments, augment the conveyed message and assist in forming the reader’s opinion. The basis of the analysis is from the Critical Geopolitics school of thought and also the Deconstructivist methodology that suggests we read a map and break it down into its constituent elements. It considers many aspects: the chronology within the charts and the article’s publication; the symbolic meaning and constituent elements of the charts; those being the titles of the pages and articles and the depth of study. It also considers the specific topic discussed in the newspapers.
