This essay aims at highlighting some preliminary aspects of the lógos tripolitikós in the Homeric poems. The first appearance of this relevant political element, which is the basis of the theory of the forms of government, is usually - and correctly - linked to the Histories of Herodotus. However, if we look at the Iliad and Odissey as "encyclopedia", there we can find elements that allow us to say that, although in an embryonic state, the political idea of the lógos tripolitikós had already existed some centuries before the work of Herodotus.
