The dynamic response of a steel pedestrian footbridge, suffering from relevant vibrations, is analysed both by means of a F.E. model and of experimental tests. Once the natural frequencies, the eigenvector shapes and the expected maximum values of the acceleration are calculated, the footbridge is found to be verified according to the standard code and literature procedures. A different application of the literature approach shows that the footbridge is very close to the admissible limits for the peak acceleration. The comparison with the dynamic experimental tests shows good agreement between the theoretical model and the real structural behaviour allowing some considerations on the code-type approach.
