Abstract

A linear theory is developed for analysing the dynamic alongwind response of base-isolated buildings. Using the matrix condensation and the modal synthesis techniques, the building is first idealized by means of a two degree of freedom model. Working in the frequency domain, the structural system is then schematized through a pair of equivalent oscillators, whose dynamic response is determined in closed form. The conclusions of the paper highlight several observations of noticeable conceptual and applicative significance.
