After first clarifying the meaning and use of the two main terms referred to in its title – “Ethnolects and McLanguage. On the creative potential of language hybridity” – this paper seeks to provide a synopsis of research studies on ethnolectic and globish phenomena in the German language and shows on the basis of selected examples (Rajčić and Zaimoglu) how authors of transcultural literature make creative use of hybrid linguistic varieties.
