The volume is divided into two main sections. What culture, what difference? seeks to address the different meanings and purposes attached to terms such as “multiculturalism” and “interculturalism”, “cultural diversity” and “intercultural dialogue”, and therefore to provide a useful conceptual map to better understand how such notions are located in the overall spectrum of cultural policy and management. The second section, Policy makers and institutions facing the challenge of multicultural society, explores in greater detail the different policies devised to sustain cultural diversity in a number of contexts, from urban policy-making to museums, from “intercultural” performing arts European projects to television comedy.
