Within the history of the Roman Congregations of the Index and of the Holy Inquisition the case of condemnation of the two leading Christian thinkers of the nineteenth century is very significant. In fact, in the events that led to condemnations of two philosophers gets the upper hand the hostility that manifests itself in the Catholic Church against the reformist thought expressed by them. The reasons of the measures of condemnation were only apparently doctrinal, insisting instead from 1849 to 1887 in a continuous hostility to the political and ecclesiological vision of reconciling the liberal political vision with the Christian vision of freedoms.

Abstract
Within the history of the Roman Congregations of the Index and of the Holy Inquisition the case of condemnation of the two leading Christian thinkers of the nineteenth century is very significant. In fact, in the events that led to condemnations of two philosophers gets the upper hand the hostility that manifests itself in the Catholic Church against the reformist thought expressed by them. The reasons of the measures of condemnation were only apparently doctrinal, insisting instead from 1849 to 1887 in a continuous hostility to the political and ecclesiological vision of reconciling the liberal political vision with the Christian vision of freedoms.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
