This study investigates the unique aspects of the chrono-typology created in the context of the city compared to the well estabilished model widely used for rural studies. The "Mappatura culturale della città vecchia di Genova", conducted from 1994 to 1999 in the Progetto Civis Ambiente, a component in the European program 'Life', has provided the occasion to analyze the elements of about 3.000 buildings. On this occasion we analyzed the elements of both architectural (doors, windows, parapets) and structurals (corbels, staircase columns, keystones) features, in orde to verify the real possibility of creating a chrono-typology.
