The aim of the project described here is to provide a set of tools for user friendly management of clinical decision making based both on data base management systems, in order to collect patient/experimental data, and on artificial neural networks (ANNs), as a powerful tool for data classification. A pre-release version of this system has been used at the Esophageal Surgical Unit of School of Medicine of the University of Genova to find possible qualitative correlations between Gastro Esophageal Related Disease (GERD) symptoms and functional results from esophageal manometry and 24 -hour esophageal-gastric pH - monitoring. The subjects of our study were patients treated within this unit between the 1996 and 2000
