This book is dedicated to Spanish-Italian interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting and sight interpreting are complex activities requiring both good coordination and monitoring of cognitive efforts and the activation of automatisms as well as problem-solving strategies. This becomes increasingly difficult to achieve if variables and additional efforts are added, such as ambiguous sentences, the main variable in this study. The first chapter deals with some linguistic and professional aspects related with Spanish-Italian language pair. The second chapter focuses on ambiguity as a challenge for interpreters working from Spanish into Italian. The third chapter develops a central notion in analysing any kind of interpreting process or product, that is, strategy. A classification of potential strategies for simultaneous interpreting (SI) from Spanish into Italian is given. The fourth and the fifth chapters present the results and the considerations of an experimental study carried out in SI and sight interpreting by three groups of eight interpreters with a different degree of expertise. The focus is not on errors but on strategies, using the above mentioned classification. The latest two chapters and an appendix are devoted to training and to a didactic proposal.
