Abstract

In this volume the problem of death is faced from the realization that the enormous scientific and technological developments, applied to medicine, revolutionized in recent decades, the ethical and legal framework in which the phenomenon of finis vitae has yet been devised. Moving from this epochal transformation of meaning, the author addresses the question of what death is for us today, and what’s our moral responsibility towards those who died. The purpose is to determine the principle of human dignity, compared to new situations, such as the artificial prolongation of life, the removal of organs and their marketing. At the center of reflection, there are the outlines of a critical thanatology, the issue of “brain death” and its investigation, the problems of funeral, even in light of recent innovations and their legislative innovations.
