Abstract

There is a specific discipline of industrial design towards of the issue of local development and in particular to the enhancement of the Mediterranean territories compared to other disciplines and with other cultures? There are new and more profique types of relation between design and local economies? This has gradually led to explore a new field for design, at least until a few years ago, namely a generator and catalyst design of skills, tools, methodologies capable of indicating new possible solutions (and sustainable) development for the local economies. Along this line of research it is possible to identify one of the most innovative research that Me.Design (MIUR PRIN 2002-04) on the design for the Mediterranean area has determined, that is the element spatial awareness as a crucial component not only when addressing the theme of a design to serve the mature production contexts (individual firms, systems of small and medium enterprises, districts), but even when the goal is the enhancement of a complex system of human, cultural, natural, productive that of a region may constitute the factors of prevailing development. The context in which the Genoese School grew up and confronts is part of the economic system and local production, in a larger and articulated reality trivially defined as global. The system marks the consolidation opportunities growing stronger between the Genoese School of Design and the territory where it is called to act, meaning for territory not only geographically areas but also and especially in the thematic sense, in various areas of knowledge which have become fields of action and research that includes: design for the use and enjoyment of the Cultural Heritage, Brand design and communications, from planning events to product design, design for mobility and for transportation to yacht design and nautical design; from the healthcare environment to design for re-use and / or conversion of materials and technical expertise in different sectors.
