The aim of this work was to experimentally investigate the natural convection heat transfer in a rib-roughened, vertical channel by applying different optical, index-of-refraction, techniques. The vertical channel consisted of a rib-roughened heated plate (at uniform wall temperature) and an opposing smooth unheated plate, at a given spacing value. Local heat transfer coefficients were recovered by using the schlieren technique and the holographic interferometry technique, separately. Experiments were conducted at DITEC, University of Genova and at the Energetic Dept., University of L’Aquila on the same test section. The individual techniques were explained in details and the results were discussed and compared.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to experimentally investigate the natural convection heat transfer in a rib-roughened, vertical channel by applying different optical, index-of-refraction, techniques. The vertical channel consisted of a rib-roughened heated plate (at uniform wall temperature) and an opposing smooth unheated plate, at a given spacing value. Local heat transfer coefficients were recovered by using the schlieren technique and the holographic interferometry technique, separately. Experiments were conducted at DITEC, University of Genova and at the Energetic Dept., University of L’Aquila on the same test section. The individual techniques were explained in details and the results were discussed and compared.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
