Abstract

Generative art created by Artificial Intelligence (AI), commonly known today as the production of artistic images based on textual prompts, represents the culmination of extensive and multifaceted research, beginning in the 1960s. Technological advancements, exemplified by Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), have proliferated sophisticated generative and automated systems, now accessible without specific programming knowledge. AI has played a significant role by enabling users, including non-designers, to utilize pre-programmed algorithms. This study investigates AI's impact on design, narrowing the gap between computational and design skills. The increasing interaction between artificial intelligence and design delineates a gradual blurring of boundaries between the two fields, validating an ongoing convergence. Analysis of data from an integrative systematic review reveals a tightening convergence between AI and design, reflecting heightened attention in the domain. This fusion is reshaping professional practices, signaling a revolution in design and amalgamating technical and creative competencies. Platforms such as Photoshop integrate AI, introducing innovative functionalities, while platforms like Midjhourney and DALL·E are opening new vistas. This synergy may sketch new professional roles and interdisciplinary approaches to address complex and unprecedented design challenges.
