Ovid's ars amandi is a veritable witty manual on the art of seduction in Augustan Rome. The work follows the genre of the didactic poem and is almost a parody of it. It is probable that Medicamina faciei, a booklet on the use of cosmetics that teaches women how to be beautiful and how to curry favor with men, were somehow linked to this work.
