Le periferie a Genova in età contemporanea

The Making of Urban Peripheries in Genova (XIX-XX centuries) The paper analyzes the growth of urban peripheries in Genova between XIX and XX century. It focuses on urban planning policies which from 1945 onwards did not succeed in balancing the development of the city. Population’s growth in XX century generates new residential suburbs, often overlapping the industrial peripheries. Finally the social features of the peripheries are considered, taking also into account the great change caused by the deidustrialization process and to a certain extent by the initiatives undertaken by local governments.
