An integrated methodology for ecological and monetary evaluation of natural capital, specifically addressed to the evaluation of the value of Marine Protected Areas, is applied to Portofino, Cinque Terre, Asinara, Tavolara, Capo Carbonara and Plemmirio MPAs. Nature’s value is accounted on a spatially explicit base and each habitat is evaluated. High value habitats, where biomass is concentrated and stored, generally occupy limited surfaces of MPAs but their functioning is dependent by resources imported from adjacent lower value habitats.

Abstract
An integrated methodology for ecological and monetary evaluation of natural capital, specifically addressed to the evaluation of the value of Marine Protected Areas, is applied to Portofino, Cinque Terre, Asinara, Tavolara, Capo Carbonara and Plemmirio MPAs. Nature’s value is accounted on a spatially explicit base and each habitat is evaluated. High value habitats, where biomass is concentrated and stored, generally occupy limited surfaces of MPAs but their functioning is dependent by resources imported from adjacent lower value habitats.File in questo prodotto:
