This brief research concerns a Latin inscription of the ancient Beirut which mentions the precarious concession of the faculty to pass through a fund on foot (itur) as well as with flocks, herds or carts (agitur) and which can be compared with some epigraphs found in various places of Italy. From the examination of the find, which is proposed to date back to the Julio-Claudian age, it results that the application of Roman law to the Julia Felix Augusta Berytus colony was prompt and intense. From the point of view of the economic history of the territory, the inscription seems to confirm the evidence on the transhumance phenomena attested in the region as early as the prehistoric age.

Abstract
This brief research concerns a Latin inscription of the ancient Beirut which mentions the precarious concession of the faculty to pass through a fund on foot (itur) as well as with flocks, herds or carts (agitur) and which can be compared with some epigraphs found in various places of Italy. From the examination of the find, which is proposed to date back to the Julio-Claudian age, it results that the application of Roman law to the Julia Felix Augusta Berytus colony was prompt and intense. From the point of view of the economic history of the territory, the inscription seems to confirm the evidence on the transhumance phenomena attested in the region as early as the prehistoric age.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
