This work focusses on the available documentation about the Hispanic and African oval amphorae recovered in the contexts of Longarina 1, Longarina 2 (Ostia, Rome), and also in contexts of the House of Ariadne (Pompeii). The materials range in date from the mid-2nd century BC to AD 79. In spite of problems in the existing documentation, the Spanish and African ovoid amphorae in those assemblages can be studied so as to provide an overview of their evolution and distribution. The environment around Ostia shows very significant drainage activity, involving amphorae, carried out at the beginning of the Imperial times on the soils of the lagoon’s shoreline.

Abstract
This work focusses on the available documentation about the Hispanic and African oval amphorae recovered in the contexts of Longarina 1, Longarina 2 (Ostia, Rome), and also in contexts of the House of Ariadne (Pompeii). The materials range in date from the mid-2nd century BC to AD 79. In spite of problems in the existing documentation, the Spanish and African ovoid amphorae in those assemblages can be studied so as to provide an overview of their evolution and distribution. The environment around Ostia shows very significant drainage activity, involving amphorae, carried out at the beginning of the Imperial times on the soils of the lagoon’s shoreline.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
