Lo scriver breve di Samuel Beckett: Imagination morte imaginez

This paper offers an analysis of Samuel Beckett's fairly short story "Imagination morte imaginez" / "Imagination Dead Imagine", aiming to reconsider the author's marginalia and 'texts for nothing' within his own literary corpus. Taking into account the manuscripts and both the French and English texts (the latter translated from the French by the author), this research work discusses Beckett's canon - his plays included - through a multi-pronged approach that considers stylistics, language and thematic issues as well as its intertextuality. Often labelled as 'residua', Beckett's short narratives prove their marginality as a virtuous, positive and fertile feature; they come across as thematic and stylistic specimen within Beckett's whole corpus. The study focuses on narratological features as much as on the linguistic aspects of Beckett's narratives which rely on both the spoken and written language, which is thus handled as sign, sound and exploited in its poetic and expressive function as much as in its contextual one, for any act of story-telling is in fact a speech act that re-codes and fine-tunes the relationship with the reader/listener.

Questo saggio, nell'affrontare l'analisi di un racconto brevissimo, Imagination morte imaginez/Imagination Dead Imagine, intende recuperare l'attenzione sui testi brevi in prosa di Samuel Beckett. Tenendo conto delle carte manoscritte e delle versioni autoriali in lingua francese e, in auto-traduzione, inglese, il saggio colloca il racconto all'interno dell'intero canone dell'autore (opere teatrali incluse) offrendo un'analisi stilistica, linguistico-tematica e inter-testuale. La dimensione di 'residua' di questo lavoro è dunque intesa in un'accezione positiva del termine, ovvero 'scarto' che sincretizza 'exempla' tematici e stilistici di un intero corpus. Il lavoro di ricerca si concentra sia sugli aspetti narratologici che sulla dimensione linguistica che propone una lingua sia scritta che orale e dunque segno ma al contempo materia sonora, poetico-espressiva e inter-relazionale dunque atto linguistico che ridefinisce il patto con il lettore.
