This paper is the first step of a work intended to explore the role played by Proudhon in the formation of Marx’s thought from the Manuscripts of 1844 to the Grundrisse. In the first part I try to single out some key points of Proudhon’s social and economic theory. In the second part I go through Marx’s criticism. Finally some reflections about the influence on Marx of the debate with the French author are put forward.
