Although today there are more aggressive and effective medical treatments (intravenous steroid therapy, biological therapy, immunomodulators, early surgery) the rate of colectomy in ASC has not changed significantly over the last 20 years. Subtotal colectomy with ileostomy in emergency remains a viable alternative to medical rescue.
