Abstract

In the year 2014, the city of Genoa had to consider again its waterfront and redesign an additional portion of it, in particular the one that links the city centre with the eastern area. It was back in 1984 when the first ambitious urban regeneration project of the historical centre was presented, with a specific touristic vision of the city. In 2004, just over 10 years after the first intervention, Renzo Piano planned another large project to manage the waterfront. The goal was to reunite the port to its town once again. This time, however, direct intervention was used even on the dynamics of production. Piano prudently speaks of a utopia that can be achieved, but in fact it will remain just a utopia. To day (2014) the main idea of the Blueprint is to be spatially more limited than the fresco, and to create a physical connection between the Old Port and the Fiera del Mare. This would help create a pedestrian promenade that runs along and under the elevated road, flanked by a canal measuring between 20-60 meters wide and over two kilometres long
