In this paper I give some hints towards a proper treatment of indexical thoughts as expressible with complex demonstratives. After a short discussion of the conflict of interpretations on Frege’s theory of indexicals (Kripke, Künne and Burge), I analyse some Fregean remarks on the relation between linguistic expressions and indexical thoughts, pointing to the relevance of demonstrations in Frege’s view. I then try to show how complex demonstratives represent the best way to express a demontrative thought, placing Frege’s theory of demonstrations at the heart of his view of the context dependence of natural language.

Abstract
In this paper I give some hints towards a proper treatment of indexical thoughts as expressible with complex demonstratives. After a short discussion of the conflict of interpretations on Frege’s theory of indexicals (Kripke, Künne and Burge), I analyse some Fregean remarks on the relation between linguistic expressions and indexical thoughts, pointing to the relevance of demonstrations in Frege’s view. I then try to show how complex demonstratives represent the best way to express a demontrative thought, placing Frege’s theory of demonstrations at the heart of his view of the context dependence of natural language.File in questo prodotto:
