Romano Guardini focuses his attention on the mutual bonds between individual, community and State. Political life originates in the dialogical relation between individual and community. A community acts in history through the State and the State is God’s representative in worldly things. When rejecting God, people reach a false and unbearable freedom and indulge in a neopagan and totalitarian dictatorship, as during the Nazi era. God is, in fact, the only guarantee of freedom for the people and the greatest enemy of any totalitarism.
