The work presents an historical review of Italian research papers by, or about, women mathematicians over the period 1887 - 1946 but including some consideration of female mathematics graduates at the present time. It considers the historical evidence about the role of women as teachers and researchers of mathematics, documenting who wrote papers, when, how many, and where these were published. It also refers to historical papers written by men about women mathematicians and offers one model for establishing womens' historical presence in the discipline.

It considers the historical evidence about the role of women as teachers and researchers of mathematics, documenting who wrote papers, when, how many, and where these were published.
