This introduction essay takes into account the conclusions of all the papers published in the book and also the impact of directive 2008/115/EU, which came into force in December 2010. The conclusion is that rules are in a mess and has to be underlined that immigration doesn’t concern “others” but it is a relevant part of the way in which civil rights are considered inside the European Union, by the Europeans.
