"La Difesa della razza". Politica, ideologia e immagine del razzismo fascista

In the context of the Fascist racial press campaign, one of the regime’s most intense efforts took the form of the publication and distribution of a new illustrated magazine devoted entirely to the pursuit of a new racial consciousness among the Italians. "La Difesa della razza" was published biweekly from August 6, 1938, to June 20, 1943. The editor was the journalist Telesio Interlandi, a radical fascist broadly known for his personal links with Mussolini and his cultural and political antisemitism. "La Difesa della razza" was financed by the Ministry of Popular Culture and by a variety of banks, industrial concernes and insurance companies. Its foundation was closely linked with the publication of the so-called Manifesto of racial scientists, which inaugurated, in July 14, 1938, fascist State racism. This book provides the first in-depth analysis of La Difesa della razza as a relevant case-study of the political, ideological and iconographic dimensions of Fascist racism and antisemitism.
