This paper is aimed at considering the performance of a foundation model tested in a calibration chamber on a normally consolidated silica sand. The load settlement curves and the stiffness degradation curves are compared with the ones that it is possible to evaluate by the elastic approach, using as soil stiffness the values directly obtained by conventional triaxial tests performed on the same sand. The paper is particularly focused at evaluating the relationship between the stiffness degradation curves determined in laboratory and in the “field” and the relevant strain level that is necessary to consider in order to select the appropriate stiffness value representative of field performance. The obtained results show that the ratio between the foundation relative settlement s/B and the triaxial axial strain εa is not a constant.

Abstract
This paper is aimed at considering the performance of a foundation model tested in a calibration chamber on a normally consolidated silica sand. The load settlement curves and the stiffness degradation curves are compared with the ones that it is possible to evaluate by the elastic approach, using as soil stiffness the values directly obtained by conventional triaxial tests performed on the same sand. The paper is particularly focused at evaluating the relationship between the stiffness degradation curves determined in laboratory and in the “field” and the relevant strain level that is necessary to consider in order to select the appropriate stiffness value representative of field performance. The obtained results show that the ratio between the foundation relative settlement s/B and the triaxial axial strain εa is not a constant.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
