In this chapter the basic elements of transportation systems and the relevant interaction with the logistic framework are described. In doing so, the qualitative definitions of mobility supply, demand, which represent the underlying structure of any logistic system, are introduced. Then, the assignment problem, the intelligent transportation framework, the problem of reducing externalities, and modal equilibrium are described. In the end, a state of the art analysis of the application of rail transportation to logistics is discussed.

Abstract
In this chapter the basic elements of transportation systems and the relevant interaction with the logistic framework are described. In doing so, the qualitative definitions of mobility supply, demand, which represent the underlying structure of any logistic system, are introduced. Then, the assignment problem, the intelligent transportation framework, the problem of reducing externalities, and modal equilibrium are described. In the end, a state of the art analysis of the application of rail transportation to logistics is discussed.File in questo prodotto:
