The book results from an extensive analysis of all newspapers and periodicals published in Genoa and Liguria from 1943 to 1947. It reconstructs the most important events of the history of the Ligurian journals and journalism throughout this crucial period of political transition. It examines the unique characteristics of the local situation, i.e. the survival of the only ‘socialist’ newspaper tolerated by the fascist regime, but also discloses experiences and behaviours common to the whole Italian journalism. In addition, it features the life-stories of some major Genoese journalists, also renewed at a national level, and contains an appendix of biographical profiles of journalists of that epoch
