In the last decades, the sources of private law have undergone a marked process of expansion. Looking upwards, Europe has no doubt taken up a leading role, becoming the source of a new private law, with its own features and rules. And looking downwards? A few questions arise: Can regional governments make norms of private law? And if so, what are their limits in doing so? The research presented here offers a reconstruction of the problem of private law at the regional government level, with an emphasis on the connections between statutory law, case law and jurisprudence. The goal is to provide an answer to some of the questions above. Further goals include: to single out objective criteria that are useful in distinguishing the regional government norms that belong to private law from those that only appear so; and also, to articulate a "reasonableness judgment" that can warrant the constitutional legitimacy of "a private law of regional governments" of which this book gives examples, characteristics, and prospectives of development.
