The article concerns the work of Modestinus entitled De excusationibus. The starting point is the preface, which outlines the aims of the author. Is also analyzed the structure of the monograph and the citation in Latin language of the jurist's text and of the imperial contitutions. They are genuine, despite the suspicions of interpolation of some scholars. The monograph is very original because it is written in Greek language. It is a comprehensive collection of Roman law on exemptions from tutela.
